Why surfers are drifting south to Tamraght
Taghazout's popularity has pushed prices and crowds up; Tamraght absorbed the overflow and kept its village feel. The camps here tend to be smaller and more personal, several of the best surf-and-yoga retreats in Morocco are on this hillside, and Devil's Rock — the local break — is a genuinely kind wave for learning, less crowded than the Taghazout beaches at peak season. Evening scene: rooftop dinner, card games, early night. That's the point.
A morning in the village
Even if you're staying in Agadir, Tamraght rewards a half-day visit. Coffee at one of the excellent little cafés (the village does Morocco's best brunch scene, thanks to years of surf-camp competition), a wander past the market stalls and the mosque, then down the track to Devil's Rock to watch the surf schools at work. Combine it with a stop at Banana Point in Aourir and a tagine lunch, and you have a gentle, very Moroccan half day.
Practical notes
Tamraght is dry — no bars, no alcohol in the village — which is either a dealbreaker or a feature, depending on the trip you're after. Cash is king: there's an ATM, but it occasionally runs dry at weekends, so bring dirhams from Agadir. Taxis run €12 – €20 each way; if you're arriving at Agadir airport for a camp stay, ask whether transfers are included in your package, and if not, message me and I'll arrange both directions at a fair fixed price.
