Most tours run south of the city towards Takad and the Tamri river mouth, or north into the countryside behind Aourir. Expect a mix: hard-packed village tracks, open sandy sections where you can stretch the throttle, and a stop at a Berber house for mint tea. Some routes reach proper sand dunes — the same pale dunes that feature on the 'mini Sahara' trips. You will get dusty. That's not a downside; dress for it and it's the best kind of mess.
